The Villa

'Le Bonheur' (Happiness) is a beautifully restored 17th century farmhouse set perfectly in an acre of tranquil private grounds. It is in a lovely position within the undulating Bordeaux countryside, with vineyards all around and down a short private lane that only services three properties, so it is tranquil and secluded without being remote. From the breakfast terrace, it has beautiful views across the new 10m x 5m private pool and a small vale to the local monastery on one side, and across the Duras vineyards on the other. The area is one of the most lovely in France, with lots to do and see. The originality of the properties' 17th century heritage has been combined tastefully with the very latest in modern amenities and technology.

Location

The local town, for all your baguette and croissant needs, is Taillecavat, which is a short walk. The pretty bastide towns of Monségur, Duras and Eymet, with their restaurants and vibrant weekly markets, are only a few minutes by car. There are excellent shops, restaurants, vineyards, golf, tennis, riding and fishing locally. St Emilion is around 40 minutes, with Bordeaux and its 115 kilometres of beaches around an hour.

Accommodation

Le Bonheur has recently been tastefully restored, with original oak beams and stone walls throughout. The idyllic new 10m x 5m pool is surrounded by a large terrace with elaborate lighting and purpose-built BBQ area at the shallow end of the pool. Le Bonheur sleeps 8-10 (plus cot) in its four twin/king bedrooms, plus 5th day-bed, and has two bathrooms, one of which is brand new. Cot, highchair and linen are provided for your use.

The lounge has been painstakingly and lovingly restored. A large room of 11m x 6m, the lounge has original restored stone walls and a fully beamed ceiling, with polished ceramic flooring. The leather suite and new wooden furnishings surround the stone fireplace and the TV system. Sky TV, with the full Family Package including all the UK channels, a DVD and video player are all available for you if you can drag yourself away from the pool and terrace!

The kitchen – the spacious beamed 8 x 5m kitchen is fully equipped. You have every modern convenience at hand, including a dishwasher, microwave, oven, large fridge-freezer, gas hob, seating for 8 and place settings (cutlery, plates, glasses, etc.) for around 12. The separate utility room (door at the centre of this photo) has an automatic washing machine, separate double sink, cleaning facilities (brushes, etc.) and a WC. The toy cupboard in the utility houses the table tennis sets and a range of indoor and outdoor toys/games. The kitchen leads out to the 15m x 6m breakfast terrace, which has fabulous views over the local Duras vineyards which surround the property on one side, and lovely views across the pool and small vale to the local Taillecavat Monastery.

There are four spacious bedrooms: one king with separate clothes room, and 3 twins upstairs. The restoration work has highlighted the beauty of the original beams of the house, with the huge 12-18 inch beams exposed from the stone walls.

Facilities

The new stunning 10m x 5m pool is a sheer delight. With Roman end steps at one end near the full size BBQ, across to full size/depth at 1.85m at the deep end.
