The VillaGarfagnana Media Valle del Serchio is an area of north-western Tuscany, located in the Province of Lucca. In this marvellous setting we have recently restored and refurbished a group of farmhouses, which have been the property of our family for more than 150 years. Our houses enjoy a wonderful position on a sunny hill at 450 m, surrounded by chestnuts and thorn trees, in a quite secluded place on the edge of a nice old hamlet. Clearly the result of the talented design of the Italian architect Alberto Francini of Metrogramma, they leave no detail unattended. Exposed beams, original terracotta tiles pavements and typical Tuscan rural furniture are among examples.
Location
Bagni di Lucca, about 5 kilometres away, is a nice tourist
resort, where you will find general stores, shops, and sport
centres (public swimming pool, tennis courts, etc.) and a
beautiful spa known during the 18th and 19th centuries as
a holiday or residential destination beloved of personalities
and artists like Byron, Shelley, Puccini, Metternich and Radestsky.
Traces of this glorious past are to be found in its monuments:
the English church, the Catene bridge, the spa, the villas,
the casino, etc.
Enjoy beautiful walks and bicycle or horse rides on the surrounding
hills, which are full of churches and Roman parishes: S. Pietro
in Corsena, Pieve and San Cassiano di Controne, Montefegatesi,
Casabasciana and Vicopancellorum. Nearby are Borgo a Mozzano
and the Maddalena bridge, better known as the Devils bridge,
Barga with its typical historical centre, Coreglia Antelminelli
and its Museum of Plaster Figures and Emigration, Lucca (about
27 kilometres), Pisa (about 55 km) and the close
Tyrrhenian coast or Versilia (about 40 km) offer further cultural
artistic and eno-gastronomical diversions.
AccommodationAs it was 150 years ago, Casa Ciesa consists of three apartments. Casa Ciesa itself is the largest one. It has three levels plus a basement, is about 140 sq m in total and can accommodate from 2 up to 6 people.
On the ground floor is a living room with fireplace and a
bright kitchen with balcony and view over the wonderful surrounding
nature. On the first floor two double bedrooms. A garret on
the last floor, which provides a bath with shower and a double
bedroom. (All beds are 160 cm wide). In the basement there
is a bath with shower and a pretty cellar with satellite TV
and couch.
Outside is a big garden which is completely fenced (1000
sq m), an exclusive backyard, equipped with garden furniture,
and a wood-burning oven below a loggia.
Facilities
Casa Ciesa is located in an old hamlet of nearly 100 inhabitants.
A narrow road, drivable by small cars, crosses it. We prefer
all cars to be parked on the public square of the hamlet,
150 m from our house along an asphalted path to be covered
on foot.
